Xero

Using an accounting system from the start can help you organise your finances and have insights into your business you wouldn’t be able to see otherwise! We highly recommend Xero as it allows great flexibility for growth and has one of the largest marketplaces for Apps allowing you to connect your favourite softwares and plug them straight into Xero.

Some of the benefits of using Xero are:

1. Access to your finances 24/7 through the cloud, giving you the data to make business decisions on the move.

2. Access to real-time information. Xero can show you what’s happening in your business right now!

3. Live bank feeds means you can connect your bank account to Xero which will bring through any income or payments saving data entry time and ensures accurate, timely information on cash balances within your accounts.

4. Easily give access to anyone in your team, or even your accountant no matter where they are.

5. Security and encryption are at the same level as many banks.

6. Xero is continuously improving and any updates are included within the price.

7. Xero works with over 1000+ different softwares, meaning you can save hours on data entry with a Xero integration.

Some of the common softwares we see Construction businesses use that connect with Xero are:

ServiceM8

A software tailored for ease of use with features such as job dispatch, quoting and invoicing capability with real-time visibility on job status and staff location in the field. ServiceM8 also integrates with lots of softwares such as Google Calendar and Mailchimp to help with connecting with your clients. You can also accept online payments through the app to help with cashflow.

ServiceM8 only works with apple products making them a unique standout against the competition. It is generally for service based businesses such as engineers, electricians, plumbers or anyone who carries out emergency work. It is packed full with features and definitely a good choice to start your cloud journey.

Tradify

Again, Tradify is focused on the construction trade industry and is designed for the smaller businesses of around 1-20 employees to help control business admin as an all-in-one job management software. Tradify has many key features to help your company run as smoothly as possible, such as pricing, inventory management, job tracking, online payments, reporting and many many more.

Again Tradify is for the service based businesses and in direct competition with ServiceM8. They are both definitely worth looking at and usually comes down to how you get along with the software.

SimPRO

SimPRO is designed to manage workflow, process, productivity, and profitability. SimPRO’s main features are focused on Job and Project Management to help support the construction trade and engineering sector. SimPRO is designed for the larger businesses and nearly twice the amount of monthly costs however its packed with features such as built in proposal and signing, expense tracking and much more.

Softwares that work with Zapier can also be a great benefit for any softwares that don’t have a direct integration with each other. The benefit is that Zapier can take away a lot of the repetitive actions you do day to day in your business.

NextMinute

If you are a construction owner with 5-50 employees looking for an easy to use job management, timesheets, estimating & quoting, invoicing and integrates straight into Xero then NextMinute is for you! It is perfect for many types of construction businesses however if you manage larger jobs so not 1 day works/emergency work then NextMinute is a software you should take a look at and it is very good on price.

Fonn

Fonn is a complete project management solution with advanced features making it a top choice for construction businesses who are looking to have a complete and detailed solution for project management. A typical turnover range for Fonn is around £1 million +.

BuilderTrend

BuilderTrend is still USA based however many UK construction businesses are making it work in the UK as it is packed with top of the range features and probably a true all in one solution. The biggest drawback is the lack of CIS and VAT integration from a financial perspective but from a project management and client facing product it is very good. As good as BuilderTrend is, it is definitely a pricey option starting at £300 a month....

We hope this guide gives you a good starting point for construction based softwares and there are still many more out there so if you are not satisifed with the above definitely keep on looking or if you would like to save some time get in touch with our SaintVA team today who can find the right software for you, get you fully set up and provide continuous management so you can keep moving forward with your business.
